Pro Sound Mixer REACTS to Deity W.Lav Pro
What kit are you using to record the crews dialog in this(Lapel, pack, recorder)? It sounds fantastic!
Thank you @bencoestudio! We used TC locked body pack recorders with DPA6060’s
@@MichaelWynneCAS thanks Michael! Are these belt pack units like the Lectrosonics DPR’s? Considering getting a pair and might look at the dpa6060 as they sounded lovely
What do you think about these compared to the New lectrosonics Dssm water resistant micro transmitters and dssm Receiver set up ?
Thanks for this Michael, invaluable information and walk through. Much appreciated.
You bet!
Good time with you
Will you do 1 with the CMD 42?
Michael Wynne, it would be interesting if someone tested third-party lav's on the Deity Theos. Sennheiser, DPA and Sanken are superior mic's with the same connectivity but will they work? Can you plug one of those in and see how it sounds?
whats difference in the Lectrosonics SMWB Wideband Beltpack Transmitter/Recorder and the lectro dbms transmitters ? ?
The SMWB is a digital hybrid TX and the DBSM is a digital TX. DBSM also has twice the frequency range.
@@MichaelWynneCAS dbsm is the newer model right ?
How much battery life does the a20 mini get vs the a20 ? Which of the 2 has more features to get better sound ?
I recently got the deity theos and i have some unanswered questions and confirmations. I'd be glad if you could help me out: 1. In the Workstation menu, i usually see one of my transmitters in a submenu called unallocated. Is that normal or i need to do something? 2. In the time code menu, the TC sync is grayed out till i change TC settings before i can sync, right? 3. Can the antennas on the receiver be repositioned by loosening the screw? Thank you!
I’ve been interested in hearing different microphones and the differences, especially between a lovelier microphone and a boom microphone and how the differences sound. Do you know of any scenes in big Hollywood films where only lavaliers were used?
Hello sir, im working with sound guy on a project using aaton x3 but we cant figure out how to not record unarmed iso on the final wave file any idea plz ?
What does the cut 60 do ? When should it be applied between the cmc1 and mk41 ?
It’s a 60 Hz high pass filter also sometimes called a low frequency roll off, which reduces the amount of bass coming into the signal that feeds the pre amp.
The whole section around 48 minutes about you just starting out was nice to hear. I’m aspiring and going to set can be very scary, especially laving talent. Good to hear that my attitude can help, I just need to keep going and facing fears. Also the part about you buying gluten free food for the actor was really cool haha
Glad it was helpful, It’s a process!
The Deity system is about perfect for me. And the setup and syncing is brilliant. Even the case and all the included accessories make this a bargain.
It's interesting that at 7:25 you mention the gain staging but you haven't really tested it. Well I have and I can tell you that it has major issues exactly in this regard. The headroom is way to little, especially with the supplied lav mic, which is too hot for the ADC. I recorded a classical singer and the transmitter was set to zero gain and still the signal was constantly near the clipping point. There is a serious design flaw here and Deity needs to address this.
This helps a lot. Thanks
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
What an intro.
Thanks!
Awesome video. Love the clips and seeing the random moments of life. cool review
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing video; thank you for the detailed review, I actually came back here after two years just to see if I still wanted it now that I can find a mint one, when I first watched there weren’t any available. 😅
Glad it was helpful!
Me to i like sanken cs3e with ktek and mixpre 6 ,, very light weight ,, ready to go very speedy
Excellent rig!
Genius 👍🏻🖖🏻 thanks
You're welcome!
What’s did u find the best situations to use the schoeps cmc 1 ?
For me, I use it mostly for interiors
So if it’s one person go with the mk41 capsule and if it’s a few ppl put on the mk4 capsule? What are the benefits and advantages of the cmc1 41k over the sennheiser mk50?
The MK41 is a more sonically balanced and natural sounding capsule, the MKh50 is also great, but is a bit more aggressive in its frequency response, both have their merits
@@MichaelWynneCAS but is the mk41 capsule for capturing sound from one subject (one person ) and the mk4 capsule for capturing sound from multiple subjects (a group) ?
@@MichaelWynneCAS what’s an aggressive frequency response mean in the World of sound ?
Hey Michael, not sure you're monitoring these comments, but if you are, which mics did you choose, and are you still using them? I shoot docs, with on-camera mics often times.
Hi Trevor, I ended up going Schoeps MK41’s for my interiors. I think the most flexible pro level option for an on camera mic that I could also use on a boom would be the Sanken CSM1. Hope this helps!
Thanks Michael. Appreciate your fast feedback. I adore the Sanken CS-3e - it's my sole mic right now. And I've been looking for an interior mic. But the problem with the CS-M1 is it's an interference tube shotgun and still has reflection issues (so I've been told). I like the idea of DPA because there's continuity across the lavs, shotgun, and super cardiod offerings. But it sounds like it might be unrealistic to employ a DPA 4018B/C or even a Schoeps CMC141/641 on camera based on your expertise. Is this a handling issue or something else? Curious to hear your thoughts should you have time. @@MichaelWynneCAS
Ended up going with the CS-M1. DPA for another day.
Nice review! Has the max SPL changed to 130? That's listed on the website. Thanks!
Thanks! I believe the whatever the latest specs are on the site should be correct!
Anyone have a new solution now that this bag is discontinued?
Hi Branden, Check out Protogear
Thanks for that review. How did you setup the gain staging for the C70. What dB did you dial on the TX and on the RX for your audio feed into the camera?
Maybe I missed this, but is your Audio eq’d in post?
@heythatsjeremy yes! Part of the joy of being able to make these videos for is a proper post mix!
Wow
I would like to purchase this kit. Does gotham sound have a hydra kit with this configuration?
Hi Josh, check with @gothamsound
whats needed to connect shure twinplex tl48 mics that are mdot to this deity theos system? or does it come with connector piece ?
what do you think are best lavs for corporate work ? whats more used lav mics on movie sets ? im using deity theos system thanks. I was going to get the sanken cos11? but whats the most popular sounding ones to match with the Schoeps cmc1 and the Schoeps cmit5u
Can’t go wrong with the Sanken COS11!
@@MichaelWynneCAS what better for most voices other than sanken cos11? What’s most popular?
@@MichaelWynneCASwhat’s best system for corporate work and movies the lectrosonics , the sound devices, or Shure adx5d ?
also ,what Schoeps capsule would you use for "outdoors " on the cmc1 ?
I typically prefer a longer mic for exteriors because they have better off axis rejection such as a short shotgun.
@@MichaelWynneCAS I can use sennheiser mke600 outdoors for now
Does this schoeps have rfi protection like the newer cmc1 ?
No, this was actually a loaner. I’m currently using the CMC1 with the RF shield however.
what do you like and not like about the cmc1 vs the cmc 6? I don't understand which spec to look at when it comes to which of these 2 mics have more power. its hard to imagine a cmc1 outdoing the cmc6 which is longer lol @@MichaelWynneCAS
1:24 😂 Love this! This is how you separate the boys from the men. Red Cameras don’t last long and are unreliable.
Thanks Peter, it was such a pleasure to collaborate with these guys on this!
I am soooooo tired of not having audio examples to reference this high end gear. It is really frustrating. Are there an links available where I can hear this in action?
There’s so many aspects to good sound. From the acoustics of the space, the actors voice, the skill of the boom op, the mic, etc. Gear is important, but it’s only a small part.
Nagra pre amps are great. How do you guys think it compares?
Never used them! But my guess is their great
Can you time code jam with just the theos system by itself, or do you need to get the time code generators also ?
Yes, you can jam the Theos transmitters by themselves
The most important thing about wireless audio systems is the distance they can work without breaking the signal. Everything else is just advertising.
That may be the case for you, but for me the transmitter size, battery life, frequency options and signal robustness all all reasonable ranges are also very important!
Which lav was used ?
@benchdown the deity W.Lav pro
It's not that it's not powerful it's that it's like buying a car that has a speed governor on it, sure your speedometer says you can do 200 but the governor won't let you do 50.
Love the Theos
Well, that deserves a heart then!
Nice overview - always appreciate your perspective.
Thanks Curtis, I think this very well could end up being a full-time accessory on my C70!
My experience in the gain staging has been confusing. Noise floor feels a little high but maybe it's just me.
It took me a moment to figure out the proper gain staging as well Nathan however, I haven’t experienced any issues with noise floor yet however.
With the receiver directly wired into the C70 did you actually still need the TC1 for timecode? Does the deity system not send/jam the timecode into the c70 itself along with the signal?
Hi @live2wanderproductions. Like most audio receivers it does not support time code, so you’ll need to use the TC-1 or another lockit device to feed TC to the camera.
still trying to figure out the best way to mount this system with the timecode gen on the c70... but still maintain my top handle for an easy rig. nice review :)
Thank you @MrMoviePhoneEx. Nice to see another C70 user here! Depending upon what your using your top shoe mount on your handle for you could do the configuration we use here which is a touch of bit soft side Velcro on the DTRX to attach the TC-1 providing it doesn’t interfere with your grip. Cheers!
